ArenesdeLutece

About a million years ago (editor’s note: two thousand years ago), Paris was called Lutèce and was owned by the Greeks (editor’s note: France was part of the Roman empire). Here off rue Monge are the remains of the one of the largest amphitheaters in the Greek world (Editor’s note: Again, it was the Romans.). Although the area was known as Arènes, the exact location of the amphitheatre was unknown for hundreds of years. It was excavated in the late 19th century.

Today, you can go and enjoy a picnic, or play a game of pick-up soccer in the center. (Editor’s note: Americans don’t play soccer, it’s too low scoring)

49, rue Monge. Open every day 9am-9pm
