Les Tuileries

The Tuileries Garden was originally the site of the Tuileries Palace, which burned down in 1871. Today the only standing remnants of the palace are the Museums: the Jeu de Paume and the Orangerie.

The Jeu de Paume was originally the tennis court and the Orangerie was a greenhouse where the citrus tree would winter, protected from the frost. Super classy orange trees.

The Orangerie houses one of the largest collection of Monet’s water lilies (Les Nymphéas) and the Jeu de Paume boasts contemporary photographic images and electronic art.

Jardin des Tuileries 1st Arrondissement, Open: every day 9am-12:30pm to group tours, 12:30-7pm to individual visitors
