Galant Vert

I’m going to let you in on a little secret, this hidden enclave doesn’t see as much tourist traffic as other parks in the city, so it’s well worth checking out. The park is right on the western edge of Île de la Cité on the other side of the Henri IV statue. Just follow the Pont Neuf (from either side of the river) to the center and walk down the stairs to your own private sanctuary.

Le Vert Galant was the nickname of Henri IV, the once King of France. He commissioned a great deal of construction in the city during his reign. Including the Pont Neuf, which as you remember, leads to the Square Vert Galant.

On a side note: the Pont Neuf, which means ‘New Bridge’, is really the oldest bridge in Paris. Go figure. And remember, this is just between you me and the lamppost. Not the Pont Neuf bit; I think everyone should know about that.
